Transition

Transition at Ysgol Maes Hyfryd

The transition process for pupils of any age is very important and is carefully structured at Ysgol Maes Hyfryd (YMH). Each young person is provided with an enhanced transition programme wherever possible, which is comprehensively planned to accommodate individual needs and support a positive start.

Year 6 Transition

The transition from primary school to high school is a significant time in a young person’s life and can understandably cause anxiety for both pupils and parents.

Pupils transfer to Ysgol Maes Hyfryd from a number of schools; however, the main feeder school is Ysgol Pen Coch, Flint.

Wherever possible, the aim is to make this transition as smooth and supportive as possible by:

  • Arranging visits and shared projects from Year 5

  • Sharing information about pupils’ interests, skills, and abilities

  • Discussing preferred learning styles and classroom organisation

  • Providing social opportunities throughout the year for Year 5 and 6 pupils to experience activities at YMH

  • Offering dedicated transition days during the spring and summer terms

Working with Parents and Carers

Parents and carers are encouraged to visit the school both informally and formally throughout the year. Opportunities include social occasions, open days, and open evenings, allowing families to become familiar with the school environment and staff.
