Welcome to the Sixth Form Hub. We are based off site. We are in a building in Shotton. The Hub is a smaller building within the town of Shotton. Being close to a town centre allows us to develop our 2 pathways in a very practical way. Our pathways are:
On the vocational pathway pupils develop the skills to prepare them for work. This includes developing the life and living skills needed for independence, work skills and work experience. All of this will be developed whilst continuing to progress with the curriculum with a focus upon the basic skills of literacy, numeracy and ICT.
- Life Skills.
On the life skills pathway a strong focus is placed upon the skills a person needs to be independent in the home. This includes shopping, cooking, cleaning and personal independence to include transport training road safety and more. Like the vocational pathway pupils will continue to progress within the curriculum and develop basic skills in a practical ‘life focused’ way.
By our proximity to shops, leisure facilities and a community the pupils at the hub are very involved within their locality and have (and continue to) forge links within the community and have become a regular, well-known and popular feature of the town.
Through work links the hub pupils gain a valuable insight into the world of work and importantly they get a feel for what a working life entails.
We have good links with colleges and pupils gain tasters and attend courses relevant to their future college options. This insight demystifies and allays fears pupils may have about their future placement as well as being a great curriculum enrichment.
A transition from one building to another before the massive transition from school to college or work is a wonderful step along the road to independence.
