Story Massage
Story Massage involves the use of simple movements (through clothes), associated with words that help to build up a story. Tracing a large circle on a learners’s back, for example, can depict the image of the world while a gentle squeezing action on the shoulders can represent eating something very delicious. Story Massage can be shared as a learner to learner or parent to child activity. It is currently being used and developed worldwide in a variety of settings. Story Massage is done on the upper parts of the body, such as the neck, shoulders and back, while the learner is in a seated position and fully clothed. These areas of the body are easily accessible, non-invasive and tend to be where the body tenses up when under stress making them particularly responsive to massage.
